tomorris wrote:Hi,
My name is Tom. I am a senior in college and I live outside of Chicago. I will soon be f*cked because I am trying to get a job at an eikaiwa in Tokyo.
So far, I have applied to ECC, because it seems like the best deal. For housing, I am friends with a few Japanese people who live in Tokyo, so they are going to help me with that, I might live with one of them, not totally sure.
I'm not going to move to Japan for good, probably 1-2 years.... I've been there before, but only for 2 weeks....
I've also been studying Japanese for about 5 months now.... any help would be greatly appreciated, cuz I'll be a gaijin soon.... thanks!

Yea, I know all about the racism and drawbacks to being there, I have been reading these forums for about 6 months now.... I have no illusions of trying to become Japanese or any crap like that, I just want to learn Japanese and live overseas for a year, max. 2... after that I will be moving to NYC and going to law school...
I know that my Japanese friend, whom I met in NYC, will at least help me find some housing. We spoke in English, so I don't know about any particular Japanese words that he would have used. Also, my Japanese friend suggested it without me asking, so that is a positive point.
