Cheaper sex and drugs

Postby Taro Toporific » Fri Jan 10, 2003 12:35 pm

Japan's shadow economy booms on sex and drugs
Deflation may be at the heart of Japan's economic malaise, but for those toiling on the shadier side of the world's number two economy, falling prices mean cheaper thrills for more people. REUTERS [Thurs, Jan 09, 2003 07:26:38 PM]

LET THE PRICE WARS BEGIN!

In trendy Shibuya, a magnet for teenagers, uniform-clad high school students can often be seen doing deals with drug vendors, many of them foreigners, just off the main shopping street.

Had to read half the article before they mentioned Shibuya Gaijin drug dealers. But then this is an Indian publication.

Dial-a-massage" businesses are also ringing up new business. Because they don't pay any rent, they can offer lower prices.

Didn't these used to be called Call Girls in the good old days?

"It's a cycle of 'good deflation' -- the supply side lowers prices resulting in higher demand," laughs Kadokura, who does his research on his own time. "They have managed to lower prices, but offer attractive services as well."

Sounds like the sex industry has a better understanding of economics than the LDP  . I guess they still hang out at the exclusive (still high priced) sex clubs and are out of touch with reality.

But the real sign that the sex industry has changed is that they now try to pull Gaijins into the pink places :biggrin2: ...
