About an hour later the neighbour told us a plane had come down, hadn't really registered the sound of the helicopters, living close to the airport you kind of blank aircraft noise out.
Pretty nasty for all concerned, expect there will be talk of shutting down the airport now.

I'd say very nasty for the people in the houses that got hit.
Such an unusual occurrence though. Very occasionally a chopper will land upside down in someone's yard, but I can't even remember the last time i heard of a light plane ploughing into a residential area.
Three people confirmed dead so far, by the way. One a woman who was on the 2nd floor of the house.
Jeez ... talk about having a bad day.

Just wait for reports of another aircraft hitting the north tower...
Then we'll know it's going to be a funky ride...

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- A small private aircraft crashed into homes in Chofu in the suburbs of Tokyo on Sunday morning, killing three people and injuring five others, police said.
The crash, involving a single-engine propeller aircraft with five people aboard, occurred around 11 a.m. and set five houses and two cars on fire, according to the Tokyo Fire Department.
Two men pulled out of the wreckage and a woman rescued from a house hit by the plane died, while three other men aboard the plane and two other women on the ground were injured and taken to hospital, the police said.
Footage on public broadcaster NHK and images showed a gutted house, the tail section of a light aircraft turned almost upside down, and firefighters battling fires and trying to rescue people.
The area is located just southeast of Chofu airport which, with an 800-meter runway, is mainly served by small propeller aircraft. The Piper PA-46, owned by an individual, was on a training flight from the airport to Izu Oshima Island roughly 100 kilometers to the south, according to the transport ministry and the police.
"I saw the plane take off but didn't see it crash," a woman who lives in the neighborhood said. "Immediately, though, I heard a loud boom and saw smoke rising."

Four people have been killed when a private jet owned by Osama Bin Laden’s family crashed in a fireball after overshooting a runway while trying to land outside London.
The £7million Embraer Phenom 300 was owned by Salem Aviation in Jeddah, which is controlled by the dead terrorist’s family.
The Brazilian-built aircraft exploded after ploughing into a carpark killing the pilot and three passengers - believed to be members of the Bin Laden family.
The jet was completely destroyed after it overshot the runway while trying to land at the Blackbushe Airport on the Hampshire-Surrey border.
Emergency services raced to the scene shortly after 3pm when the aircraft crashed into an overflow car park attached to the British Car Auction.
Last night, police were investigating reports that members of the Bin laden family were on the crashed jet. The plane is believed to be registered to a Saudi company owned by the family.
Although based in Saudi Arabia, the plane was flying into Hampshire from Milan. The Bin Ladens have interests in northern Italy.

They should put scales in the seats, so the plane beeps like an elevator when the portly person sits down,
Coligny wrote:Or maybe... The pilot could check the weight chart of the airplane...

Maximum takeoff weight is ruled by laws of physics. Which are non negotiable, even if you are from the japanese superior master race...
