Unfortunately, they do not serve them with mayonnaise, even when I tell them that is how they are eaten in the country from which the originate (Belgium).

The "thing" served with fried potatoes in French McDo can't be legally called mayonnaise (because it follow 0 steps of the recipe...) so it's written "fried potatoes sauce" It's a yellow-ish paste tasting like playdoh... at best...

They don't even provide that. They insist on Tomato Ketchup. Aaarghh...

French bureaucracy at work...that's why the world's finest champagne has to be called "sparkling wine" and French letters "condoms."

As am I...just like most people think they're French creation, it's just a matter of who made them popular. Native South American peoples have had fries (and pizzas for that matter) for centuries.

Because I don't give credit to Europeans for "inventing" foods that already existed in the places the ingredients originated?

The Incas didn't deep fry them or dip them into mayonnaise/ketchup but there are a bunch of similar ways they prepared potatoes that would be considered fries. (cut then baked, sun dried, etc.) There are also quite a few baked South American flat bread dishes served topped with tomatoes that predate Italy "creating" pizza but I guess if your definition of pizza is like Japan, tomatoes aren't really necessarily. You have to consider most of this "indian food" was shunned by the Euro invaders and then reinvented in Europe by peasants. (the rich in Europe considered it peasant food at first) But I guess this is all irrelevant as these are Korean inventions by default.

French fries are by definition deep fried strips of potato. Flat breads have existed all over the world for thousands of years including in the Mediterranean region. Italians added a new world plant to what people were already eating and that became what we now call pizza. By the way, ever hear of white pizza? Without wheat to make dough, the indigenous people of the Americas weren't eating pizza.

Fries - Baked fries are more popular than ever but if you're stuck on them being deep fried, would you consider all the weird shit they deep fry at the fair lately a new food invention?

Pizza- If you don't think it needs tomatoes you can look to Greece or Egypt for origins. Wheat dough? Nah, quinoa. Where do you draw the line though? Japanese pizza?

I rarely eat fast food, but by coincidence, I had a Mountain Ocean Sun burger and fries for lunch today (first time at MOS Burger in over 2 or 3 years). Their friends are chunkier than McD's, and not bad with ketchup.
I can handle gravy, but although I'm a Canuck I've never had poutine (it was not that big in western Canada before I left).
Mayonnaise on fries/chips - no thanks.

That yellow plastic cheese makes me want to barf. I can practically feel the carcinogens attacking the inside of my duodenum and my arteries hardening. Might as well just grab a handful and shove it straight onto my thighs... :puke:

Now chilli is a different story - nothing beats a good chilli.

Well, next decade (that's how infrequent I go there) I order a McFry I will tell them to put mayonnaise with because that's how the Indians eat it...

Hahahahaaa

I usually make my own cheese sauce and try as I might, it's kind of hard to find cheddar cheese without yellow food coloring.

Ranch and honeymustard dressing seem to be really popular dipping sauces for fries nowadays.
