A Mitsubishi Materials press release (Japanese) announces that the company has cast the world's largest gold bar. The 250kg bar is pictured above alongside a more typical 1 kilo bar. If beaten out into gold leaf, the gold would cover an area of 70,000 tatami mats (over 2.6 Tokyo Domes). The company's previous record, a 200kg bar, was beaten by a Taiwanese company's 220kg effort last year. Mitsubushi Materials has immediately applied to the Guinness Book of Records for recognition.

Also, times that it will be unattended, security systems in place, number of guards, easily accessible exits would also be helpful
