because they the people outside Nippon are sucky-Korean, loud Yankies, little black Sambo, or primitive China cannibals

"....."It's a neighboring country with nuclear bombs, and its military expenditure has been on the rise for 12 years," Aso said. "It's beginning to pose a considerable threat."...."

12 Years and they're just figuring that out! I wonder how many analysists were needed to figure out that there just might be a problem with this?

To guard against submarines, Japan's navy plans to make improvements to short-range torpedoes on ships and helicopters to make them better suited to shallow waters, the newspaper said.

The Japanese have long suspected that China will occupy by force its claims on Japan/China/ et. al. held teritorries and is making a Hollywood style attempt to persuade the masses that Japan has rights to these islands (call them atolls or reefs or rocks they are actually oil/ gas drilling and pumping rigs).

The commando training Japan is getting is just show for the major feature yet to come.

Tom Clancy novels have not fallen upon deaf ears in the Big Mikan.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Statement
1. With regard to the suicide of the consular officer of the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai on May 6, 2004, we refrain from announcing its detail due to strong wish of the bereaved family. However, in the background of the suicide, we assume that there were regrettable actions taken by local Chinese security personnel, which were against the obligation of the receiving state under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
2. About the statement on the website of the Embassy of China in Japan on December 31 which said "The Japanese side expressed that the official committed suicide because of heavy pressure of work," the Japanese side has not expressed such a position. The Government of Japan, from right after this incident, has been requesting the Government of China to inform us of the relevant facts of this incident, and has expressed strong protests.
3. Also, we cannot accept the Chinese position which says "this incident has nothing to do with Chinese government personnel." Even though we are aware of such a Chinese position through the recent press conference by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, there is no such fact that the Government of China made any explanation about the relevant facts of this incident to us prior to the said press conference.

It's all BS. They turned a Chinese Buzz Saw loose on him and he couldn't handle her and took the honorable way out! Basic Foreign Diplomat Seduction 101!
