Business is booming for love hotels - article on CNN

Postby BigInJapan » Thu Jul 02, 2009 6:43 pm

Apparently love hotels are alive and well - who knew.

From the CNN article:

TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- Even in the midst of Japan's deepest economic recession since World War II, the country's love hotel industry is thriving.

"I'd hate to use the term "recession-proof," but it's certainly proven very resilient over the last six to nine months," said Steve Mansfield, CEO of New Perspectives, which operates six love, or "leisure," hotels in Japan.

One of them, the Bonita Hotel in Isawa, boasts a 257 percent occupancy rate. Rooms can be rented for three to 24 hours.

it's no surprise, really. in times of economic hardship, people tend to booze more, have more casual sex, throw diets out the window, etc. history's shown that men tend to be more self abusive with things like alcohol and gambling, and women spend less on material items like clothing, but more on things like salon treatments and beauty products to make themselves feel better.

I definetly see much more pregnant women these days, in the 3-6 month range.

That's good for business. With all the overtime maybe I will be able to stop having to sing in the subway to put muney aside for the Mercobenz... (which was not exactly productive in fact since Toyohashi don't have any subway... joices of the countryside I presume...)

Ridiculous! I'm always self abusive.
