Have you tried any of those expensive Hokkaido cheeses sold in tiny quantities in plastic pouches? I haven't just on principle because of the tiny quantity on offer for the price.

This is what I crave and it shouldn't need taking out a mortgage neither. It's about a thousand Yen a kilo if you buy 500 grammes at a time.

I pay more than 300 Yen per 100 g of (real Dutch) Gouda cheese.

I share your frustration. I meant in the UK, not here. Here you can get 100g of plastic tasteless Australian muck or some garbage they managed to find in the UK for absurdly rock bottom prices sold at about the same price as your Gouda.

Is the Gouda they sell actually any good or have they bought and packaged the cheapest rubbish on the market just to add insult to injury. That's very much what they've done with cheddar.

Yep, the Gouda is pretty reasonable in taste.

I can buy it at Profoods in chunks of more than 1 kg.
