National dailies and television networks have been running feature stories on the latest yankī (the Japanese pronunciation of “Yankee”) phenomenon, and requests for interviews keep coming in. Coining the expression “mild yankī” to refer to the softer, less openly rebellious variety of social miscreants, Harada continues to engage in fieldwork and analysis of these “mellow rebels,” now primarily in their twenties.
