One last example, since 1972 was apparently not acceptable: Vente at Starbucks. Nobody knows what that is without asking, because it is totally made up. What the fuck is it with these English speaking companies?

Venti - Italian for 20...like the 20 ounces in the drink. Legit BUT I agree it's the same WTF mentality as Japan since I'm sure the majority of the customers don't know that and it seems way out of place with the other sizes. Canada uses piccolo, mezzo, grande, venti...

Resuscitating a zombie one year later to say that I was just listening to the latest of the excellent Adam Buxton podcasts, and the topic of Starbucks Venti came up. The conclusion drawn there was that it was twenty twat points.
