Have a look at that link above. They mean the real thing. Is MEXT cos has the job of developing a proper understanding of Japanese history - ie everything prior to Meiji and no more.

I see they are still utterly addicted to the Frozen Preservation model and I'd quite forgotten how much I hate it when they use words like Su-to-ri in a formal definition, but at least they called it a Houdou Happyou, which warms my nativist cockles. Some rather worthy sites on that list, actually. Lots of crap too, but if it keeps the Bunka Obas bums in the trains, planes and Onsens it's probably good for everyone. As a general recommendation, lots of the Tottori and Shimane sites are worth a visit, not often crushingly crowded and they are usually adjacent to well equipped seaside parks, and the beaches are clean and nice.

Lowercase L and uppercase i are the bane of graphic designers...but the whole "THI is pronounced SHI and I type し as 「si」 so it's perfectly fine to Romaji that way" has added a whole new level of confusion....but they weren't done there, make the i tower over the other letters for good measure
