Tatsujiro Suzuki, a Keio University professor, started his ``peace pledge movement'' in October 1999 to collect signatures from nuclear researchers who refuse to ``participate in the research, development, production, acquisition and utilization of nuclear weapons.'' Suzuki, however, has collected only 150 signatures to date.

Okay, again, two things wrong with this article:

- Why didn't they interview the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
- Why aren't the Hibakusya speaking out?

I don't want to be overly critical, but perhaps there's a double standard because it's the Japanese government proposing nukes?

...my mother worried that we'd be too close to China and their nukes.

And I said, "Mom, Japan doesn't have nukes. What would it look like to the world if China nuked a defenseless country"

Ah... well... hmmm... :fresse:

Hell, I'm a Californian... earthquakes? I lived through a 7.0 in the late 80's. 8)
