Here's the strangest part- it's not clear that the paper was guilty of wrongdoing.

Whatever he is he's a damn fine footballer, threw it away a bit over the last few years though. I remember one time he was even connected with Man Utd, but that was probably more down to his Japaneseability (sic)

Its quite funny watching matches over here with him playing - it's all focused on him and anything he does - cracks me up.

That's the way I read it too.
However, I guess Nakata could be a gay icon like Elizabeth Taylor, Tammy Faye Baker and Marilyn Monroe are gay icons. However for what it is worth (which ain't much), the sports newspapers have been saying he's gay for some time now.
