os x imac w/ japanese keyboard: characters all over the shop

Well, what keyboard driver do you have installed? Did you specify that you are using a Japanese keyboard during the install? If not, go to your System Preferences and check out some of the settings there (I'm not in front of my Mac right now, so if that doesn't help you out, I can always post again tomorrow from work)
