Oil less deep fryer

Postby Coligny » Thu Jun 13, 2013 1:33 am

Just a word of warning in case you are tempted to by a Philips oil free deep fryer.

Mom just tried to make tonkatsu cutlets (ok, I gave her that idea, not sure she was going to use it for cutlets).

The result is an absolute abomination. Mom nearly broke a teeth on the outside crust and the taste is what you expect from eating week old steamed roadkill rat entrails.

Have to try with other things, maybe frozen french fries are ok... But I'm not betting much on this.

It says it works with hot air.... so why not just chuck whatever needs cooking into the oven?

If hot air works then Coligny could just rant at the uncooked food for a while ...

( ... ducks and runs for cover to avoid dangerously hard flying pork cutlets ... and superheated air ... )

Ehmmm... Cooking don't work like that...
Also...
Hot air blower cook extremly dry.
Traditionnal oven (gaz, electric) cook wet...

A practical report on what is quite possibly a similar kind of machine.

Strictly for people with time on their hands... (Coligny???)

Just checked the price of that T-fal thing and the Philips non-fryer on Amazon.

T-fal Actifry ... about JPY 39,000
Philips non-fryer thingy ... JPY 43,000

That's a lot of shekels for something that replaces a pan and some oil.
Might be worth it if you eat fries every day (glancing in your direction, Coligny), but otherwise, nah.

I think this device might be better than the Philips, have to look closely.

(Dear god, 15 minutes of this lady's voice makes me feel like puking...)

Fries made in the oven taste just fine to me. but not a fine as the proper product fried in beef fat
