Which Campus to Pick?

Postby Molokidan » Fri Oct 05, 2007 3:13 pm

Alright, I came to you all for advice the long years ago when I first came here as a high school student, and you gave me great advice on cameras, things to do, trouble to start, etc. FG proved a great resource to me.

Well, now I'm back. I'm coming up on my last year of uni life, and now that I've got all those annoying requirements out of the way, I'm ready to live up my last year as a college student in Japan, studying at one of the colleges. The problem is, I'm not really sure which one to pick. I will be entering a full immersion program here, so I'll be taking classes right up with the normal Japanese students, rather than classes taught in English or some strange hybrid. I want to focus on literary translation, so a college that has a good literature, language, mixture of the two, or some similar department would be ideal. Other than that, I want to go someplace nice, of course, with reasonably friendly and cool people (for Japanese standards).

The four colleges I have to choose from are:
Keio U
Hitotsubashi U
Tohoku U
Kyoto U

They all sound great to me. Keio and Hitotsubashi would let me live in Tokyo, which I never have for an extended period of time, but I also love the country, so I wouldn't mind going to Tohoku either. And then there's Kyoto, I'd have access to a bunch of other great places like Nara, Osaka, etc. I'm honestly torn. And I've checked out the main pages of each respective college, and they all have their pros and cons to me...but I want to hear some first-hand experiences. Anyone have some?
