George Baxley's Baxley Stamps site has a number of images of stamps from Japan and the Ryukyus but also a number of books including Perry Expedition to Japan 1852-4 Lithographs; photographs (see above) from Japan, Described and Illustrated by the Japanese - "Edition De Luxe" - 1897~8 Brinkley, Frank (Captain) et. al. and also Celebrated Geysha (Geisha) of Tokyo Kazumasa Ogawa, c1892.
Clicking around turns up numerous albumen photos, photogravures etc.
