Is Japan going to miss Summer Movie season AGAIN !?

Another complaint about Toda: she's a freakin' prude and she sanitizes the hard-hitting or risqué language to suit her personal moral standards. Completely changes the mood as well as the meaning in too many cases. In other words, she just makes shit up. Nuance, innuendo ... forget it.

Sorry ... Pet peeve.

I'm pretty sure that's the same old bag I've heard all the locals complain about. EVERYONE says she sucks.

Wikipedia is fun...

Natsuko Toda was born in Tokyo. She graduated from Tsuda Colleage and started working as a secretary in a life insurance company, but quit in one and a half year.

She studied under Shunji Shimizu for subtitle translation. She found a part time job at Japanese arm of United Artists by a referral of Shimizu and performed miscellaneous tasks including translation. And then, Haruo Mizuno, the advertising manager at the time, called on her to work as an interpreter for movie people from abroad.[2] She has been active as both of a subtitles translator and an interpreter for many actors, actoresses, or directors.

However, she has been poked fun for her characteristic translated phrases such as 「~を?」「~かもだ」「ファック野郎」「プッシー知らず」, which sound strange, and known for her a number of mistranslation. Some movie directors checked subtitles re-translated from hers into the original language and changed the subtitles translator from her (e.g. Full Metal Jacket by Stanley Kubrick). Japanese movie funs criticize for her too free and loose translation, which could break a part of the universe of the story such as Sci-Fi movies.

So did she ever live abroad or anything? At 79 years old, how the fuckyaro is she still used?

Sounds like pretty standard issue International Community House volunteer level to me. Basic pidgin, but clear enough for the purpose. No wonder she misses so much with the subtitles.

LOL, well not everyone has the privilege of having their work totally rejected by Kubrick:

Harada, who directed “Inugami” (2001) and other movies, worked on the subtitles for Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” (1987) after the American director, who retranslated the work of Toda’s back into English, asked for replacements because he wanted the nuances of the dialogues rendered more faithfully.

This is kind of interesting. Plus I had no idea it was going on.

Why 'Inside Out' Looks a Little Different in Japan

If you were to see Pixar’s Inside Out in the United States, then hop on a plane and catch a screening in Japan, you might notice through your jet lag that Riley’s least-favorite food has changed. In the original version, the 11-year-old protagonist hates broccoli, which has the nerve to show up on a slice of pizza in her new hometown of San Francisco. (That sight gag is in the trailer, below.) But in the Japanese version of Inside Out, the detested vegetable is green pepper slices — a much more conventional pizza topping in the U.S. In an interview with Slate, Inside Out director Pete Docter explained the logic behind the change.

“We learned that some of our content wouldn’t make sense in other countries,” said Docter. “For example, in Japan, broccoli is not considered gross. Kids love it. So we asked them, ‘What’s gross to you?’ They said green bell peppers.”

They also changed the title to インサイド・ヘッド

I remember seeing Forrest Gump's Japanese and American version, and they left out his remark from the latter in which he explains his career path choice as "the U.S. Army because for a real dumb person that would be the only option". That wouldn't have gone over well there, methinks.
