Chinese Snatch Nobel Prize for Literature

Postby Mike Oxlong » Thu Oct 11, 2012 11:17 pm

Chinese novelist Mo Yan, "one of the most famous, oft-banned and widely pirated of all Chinese writers," has won the 2012 Nobel Prize in literature. He is known for authoring the book which is the basis for the film Red Sorghum by Zhang Yimou. The Nobel committee said Mo is a writer "who with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary." He was a nominee for the Man Asian Literary Prize in 2007 for Big Breasts and Wide Hips. Bookmakers had Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami as the favorite to win.

Might have missed it, but did sumbody read his buks ? Because the description from the wikis... Make his works sounds like shit disguised as surrealistic writing with big name dropping to act as spinkles topping... (have typewriter, will write)

I love surrealistic writings, still got Froth on the Daydream on mah bedside table... But with Japanese people... they usually try to copycat things without understanding, then put random label on a turd that is unpolishable... with everybody going "ohh... ahhh..." in an emperor's new clothes/ precieuses ridicules kind of way out of political correctness instead of calling a turd for what it is and telling the author he got shit for brain... One of the best example being Tokyo street fashion... nothing that can't be fixed by a flamethrower, but even insisting on calling it fashion (like for surrealism) make words lose their meaning in a truly japanese way... loudly expressing... nothingness... hopping that the excess of wrapping will make people forget the empty box beneath...

There are truly awesome surrealitic... happenstance... (crazy lips...Hakkyousuru kuchibiru)... But usually... when it goes nowhere, makes no sense, and is just plainly retarded, some hope that a "surrealist" label will make it worthwile...

Teh Grauniad wrote:Haruki Murakami emerges as favourite for Nobel prize for literature

Japanese writer long tipped for Nobel recognition poised to see off rivals including Joyce Carol Oates and Ko Un, say bookies

After years of hovering in the wings, this could be Haruki Murakami's year to clinch the Nobel prize for literature – at least if you go by the odds offered by Ladbrokes on the Japanese author, who is 3-1 favourite.

Other favoured contenders include US author Joyce Carol Oates (6-1), Hungarian writer Peter Nádas (7-1), South Korean poet Ko Un (10-1), and Alice Munro, the short story writer from Canada (12-1).

Having the same word, neurotic, appear twice in your opening sentence is not going to win you any Nobel prize.

The Swedish Academy announced Thursday that Alice Munro, the Canadian author known for her short stories about life in southwestern Ontario, is the 2013 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. The 82-year-old author told Canadian press that she was delighted at the news, but also "terribly suprised." "I never thought I would win. At this moment, I can't believe it," she said. "But it's quite wonderful." Munro has published 13 short-story collections, including her debut, Dance of the Happy Shades (1968), which won her first Governor award, and The Progress of Love, which won the award exactly three decades later. Her final story collection, she said, was 2012's Dear Life, and she announced in June that she had retired from writing...

Haruki Murakami to be an online agony uncle

Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami is to offer advice to troubled readers in an agony uncle column on his website, his publisher said Tuesday.

The website, named “Murakami-san no tokoro” or “Mr. Murakami’s place” will solicit problems from fans of the surrealist, whose novels are published in dozens of languages around the world.

The publicity-shy writer will pen answers to queries, offering his opinions and advice on how to tackle all manner of difficulties, said Shinchosha Publishing.

“He will receive questions of any kind,” a company spokesman said, adding that he will answer queries written in a variety of languages.

Murakami will also answer fans’ questions on his likes and dislikes - including cats, a favourite animal of his, and the Yakult Swallows, the Japanese baseball team he supports.

Problems and queries will be accepted until the end of January, and Murakami’s answers will be published over the following two months.

Japan must apologise for WWII until it is forgiven

Japan must repeatedly say sorry to China, Korea and the other countries it invaded in the 20th century until its former victims have heard the apology enough, novelist Haruki Murakami has said.

"The issue of historical understanding carries great significance, and I believe it is important that Japan makes straightforward apologies," he told Kyodo News in an interview in Tokyo earlier this month.

"I think that is all Japan can do -- apologise until the countries say: 'We don't necessarily get over it completely, but you have apologised enough. Alright, let's leave it now.'"

One thing is for sure. Denying, attempting to belittle/normalise and casting doubt on the sincerity of apologies already offered is disastrous. And that's exactly what racist wankers want.
