Also, is JA a bit of a douche or is it just me being a curmudgeon?

You are on one board, you are on plenty.
Same guy is a Vice President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, and is also President of the International Sumo Federation, and Vice Chair of the Japan Sumo Federation (the amateur body).
With all those board meetings to schedule, you would think it would be hard to fit in a chat with a yak.

It's in the article.
He is in the organizing committee of the 2020 Olympics.
Zaha Hadid has hit back at the Japanese architects criticising
her Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium design, describing them as "hypocrites".
"I think it's embarrassing for them, that's all I can say," Hadid told Dezeen.
"I understand it's their town. But they're hypocrites."
"They don't want a foreigner to build in Tokyo for a national stadium," said Hadid, who also designed the Aquatics Centre for the 2012 games in London. "On the other hand, they all have work abroad. Whether it's Sejima, Toyo Ito, or Maki or Isozaki or Kengo Kuma."
chokonen888 wrote:Hadid's design was definitely the best of the ones I saw.

You are forgetting the main point: THE EXISTING FUCKING STADIUM FROM 1964 IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE*.
All that is needed is a minor addition to the existing stadium to include more elevators, toilets and better concessions. The actual number of seats of the new proposed station and the old stadium are about the same.*(Just follow the strategy of 1984 LA Olympics that simply upgraded the 1933 Olympic stadium at a minimal cost.)

so her design should be aborted even if j-side must pay penalty money for contract bleach.

Oh. Yeeks. They could have just upgraded an existing facility but chose to tender a new one? Is the old one not decrepit? What are the plans for it?

Are you sure this isn't just another attack of the that usual kneejerk Why Don't They Do What We Tell Them thing you get periodically? And by periodically I mean every time there's a news story involving Japan, Japanese and a foreigner or foreign thing.
chokonen888 wrote:That's pretty fucked and if true, I hope more details come out so those assholes lose work overseas in the future.
chokonen888 wrote:Anyhow, you see what I mean about the competition? As someone who does design shit everyday (not architecture, mind you) her design is leagues ahead of the competition, Japanese and otherwise.
Russell wrote:I do wonder how they would've built the above stadium.
That would involve moving a massive amount of soil to realize it.
