Futagoyama, former sumo champion (ozeki rank), stable master and father to Takanohana and Wakanohana, has died at 55. The Japan Times reported earlier in the year that he was battling mouth cancer. Mainichi report in Japanese here

They had some pretty good coverage on this tonight on TV. He was a strong bastard to be able to rough house those big ass sumo wrestlers... How the hell do you get mouth cancer in Japan? I don't think it was through chewing tobacco???

The usual cause of mouth cancer is smoking and alcohol. Too bad, 55 is too young to die.

Smoking, drinking plus the general sumo lifestyle that doesn't add to your longevity.
