[floatr][/floatr]This gold soccer ball is on sale at the Nihombashi Takashimaya for 2006 man (20,060,000 yen) in advance of next month's World Cup. The same size as a regular ball, it is hollow inside and weighs around 3kg so probably is no good for a knockabout. The value of the gold itself is around 8,000,000 yen but the store hopes to get the asking price because of its rarity value. A rarity value they then undermine by indicating that they will commission more if people want to buy them.

According to Kyodo (no link) The ball has been bought by the chairman of an Osaka construction company. Takashimaya won't identify him by name to protect his privacy. They have, however, released enough information to help journalists narrow it down .
[quote="maninjapan"]And I bet the money he used to buy it was syphoned off from some government agency ]
Nah, if it was government, it would have been the mandatory, "sode no shita"!
