New World Record For Japanese Swimmer

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Feb 23, 2009 5:04 am

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Canadian Press: Japan's Shiho Sakai sets short course world record in backstroke
Japanese teenager Shiho Sakai set a short-course world record in the women's 100-metre backstroke on the final day of Japan's national championship Sunday. Sakai touched the wall in 56.15 seconds to take 0.36 off the mark set by American Natalie Coughlin in November 2007. "Before the race I was thinking about going for the world record," said Sakai. "But I was still surprised when I saw the time and am very happy."

I guess I am just asking something I could look up, but are there separate races and records for distances (50m, 100m, etc) that use 25m pools and 50m pools?
I'm guessing the answer will be 'yes' and 'short course' means 25m pools as opposed to just short races, like 50m or 100m. But my guesses are usually wrong.
