Jack, you wet wank. If you are in Japan as you claim, you should have tried turning on the TV and watching the news (if you have any Japanese ability, which now seems to be in question.) Next, read what is posted, assuming your comprehension is above third grade level. Nobody on this board is disputing that she is Japanese, born and raised. She has openly stated that she became a Russian simply to compete and does not deny this fact even now. The J-media, began their leads with questions about why she was representing Russia, instead of mother Japan. The talk shows and tabloids had statements and articles insinuating and in some cases, specifically calling her a "traitor." So what is the point of your rant. She is technically a Russian, but does not deny she is really Japanese and then, since she did well, the media here have done a 180 on their slant and now say she is "really Japanese, one of us." I have no idea of how her position as a Japanese is enhanced by the Portuguese"ness" of the Portuguese in Canada but, I suggest you take notes, as there may be a test later

On his morning show this morning, Peter Barakan brought up the subject of the lack of coverage for Chris and Cathy Reed. He rightfully stated that if is strange that they are Japanese nationals, albeit half (J-Mom), they represented Japan on the Japan team and received almost no coverage. Kawaguchi, who has Russian nationality until the media changed their minds and began saying that she really was Japanese, even though she was representing Russia, received great coverage. He wondered if this was prejudice simply because they were "half Japanese".

Ooh ... bold statement by Barakan (Yo da man, Pete!). Hope he doesn't get "hung out to dry" for that one.

But to those who say that paranoid FGs with persecution complexes are the only ones who notice such anomalies, the more you look the more you see.

Gee, as a Portugese born Canadian with dual (Portugal+Canada) citizenship, I hope that example was picked at random and not deliberately chosen as some kind of backhanded indirect offence towards me.

As for my two cents, personally I think that with the exception of curling, it takes many many years of non-stop, intensive training from early childhood to be a world-class olympic athlete, with a very small time window to obtain just the chance of success. So athletes should be free to choose to complete for whichever country their have (or can get) citizenship for, that is in their best interest to do so.

Japan has been know to bent its citizenship laws for world class athletes that have even the smallest percent of Japanese racial blood in them. Heck, Japan even protected Alberto Fujimori for a while as a citizen of Japan, even though he was a brutal dictatorial president of Peru, until the global outcry was too great.

One would hope that athletes who "moved to" or "away from" Japan would but a public spotlight on how stupid it is to deny dual citizenship in a modern industrial country, and hopefully pressure the government to change the law.
