Buying English OS laptop

I'm about ready to upgrade my PC, and want a new laptop with English OS and Office software. I know getting an Apple would solve the language issue, but I'll be sticking with Windoze.

Does anyone have any opinion/experience buying from Mercantile, PC Tokyo, TNT or PrimePC?

Or any recommendations for other vendors?

I haven't had any dealings with Mercantile for about 10 years now, but they were (and likely still are) scam artists. I suggest staying far away. The other companies you mention I haven't dealt with before.

You can buy IBM, Toshiba, and Dell notebooks preinstalled with English Windows directly from those three manufacturers. Dell is the cheapest and has the best selection but the machines are not exactly the toughest out there.

Indeed they can, but no one in their right mind would buy a Mac notebook with the intension of running Windows on it as the main OS.

Yep, I don't think I'll be getting a Mac if I don't intend to make use of the Mac OS.

FGL - If you can post those links, I'm sure they'll be useful for other people as well as for me. I currently have a Toshiba, and the only reason for replacing it is that it's getting a bit long in the tooth. If I can easily get hold of an English keyboard/OS Toshiba that would be great.

Would still be sweet so be able to switch between both though.. Just switch over to win for games for example. Id like to see which I ended up using most..

Its actually pretty nice if you set up a dual boot system where you can run Mac OS and Windows, even add Linux to it. The new intel macs run xp crazy fast. So I don't think its crazy. I run Linux and windows.

Also you can use a Japanese laptop and put english os on it, or if you want an English one I would get one shipped from the US as new laptops are about 1/3 the price as they are here, even the macs are cheaper I think but you still have to pay an arm and a leg for a Mac. You can also build your own laptop if you want, which sounds like a lot of fun to me but maybe not to all.

It IS sweet dude. Totally sweet. Excuse me while I go kill some Nazis on my PC after I finish surfing on my Mac. Only takes a few secs to switch from one world to another.

Even if you don't use the Mac much, you might like it and use it more.
