IP address blocking

Postby chibaka » Sun Dec 06, 2015 8:38 am

How do you get around it? I've been looking at this site http://jp-carparts.com/ and got a message saying can not access from Japan, so I used something called Hotspot Shield. Free trial for a day and it works.
So what are they hiding from the Japanese, are car parts prices such a secret? Don't want J mortals to know there are money making opportunities? Car parts prices on my repair estimate are far lower than this site.

Any other methods, preferably reliable and free?

When I click that site I get a message in Japanese that says that this seller does not pay Japanese sales tax, so it cannot be accessed from Japan.

Looks like it is blocked from the Japanese side.

It's the buyer who pay the sale tax... By this logic you'd never buy anything overseas...

That's an odd reason, we buy stuff from the UK and for that reason we are not charged the dreaded VAT.

Edit: Checked the site, someone is buying parts, adding a big markup and shipping out. Why hide that from the natives I don't know.
Good site for checking parts though....

Might be they just don't want to deal with Japan-based customers and the associated sales tax?

Or Tor browser. You can set it to have an IP-addy from $[country], if you want.

....but even if you block your IP, can you actually place an order to Japan?

I don't want to order, I want to use the part number information and diagrams. Can't find anywhere else without buying a CD

It does seem weird that they would block users in Japan from looking at their site. They don't have to deliver to customers here just because people can see their website. I guess it could be a way of keeping traffic that's not going to lead to a sale down.

The IP, where I usually reside, is close to where a few pretty busy spam bots live or lived. So - annoyingly - I got IP-banned from quite a few sites as collateral damage.

Though ordering should not be a problem, if you use a service like Expat Express or similar.
