It's No Game: IBM Uses PlayStation Chip For New Supercomputer

By harnessing a processor originally built for the upcoming Sony PlayStation 3, IBM is building a new supercomputer that is expected to break the petaflop barrier by topping speedz of 1,000 trillion calculations per second.

Good to see that they finally found something to do with all 7 cores of the PS3 chip, given that most game programmers are apparently having a hard time dealing with more than 2 of them at any given time...I'm sure Kutaragi is happy that Cell processor has found another customer (Kutaragi made a speech a few years back implying the chip had massive base of potential other uses in many consumer products)...pity the supercomputer market is a somewhat limited one.
