Rental Manga

Am/pm has introduced a manga rental service at one of its stores in Chiba on a trial basis. The scheme will run until the end of March at which point the company will decide whether to roll the concept out nationwide. Other companies offer a similar service but this is the first time a convenience store has attempted to do so. It costs 90 yen to take out one comic for a night and the Ichikawa branch has around 3,000 titles in stock.

90 yen is pretty cheap, but isn't it cheaper just to read it standing up in the shop? Which is what everyone does anyway.

I can't believe stores let people get away with doing that. And the people who end up actually buying them stuck with worn out and dirty books.

My son loves reading manga. I went to a video rental store with him, which also had rental comics, however when he began reading he was warned not to. I guess reading is only permitted if you go to second hand bookstores.
