That's exactly what I thought when I saw the ad but it'd be really tough to live on that in Tokyo. You could do it if you stayed in a gaijin house in the 'burbs and didn't party too much though.

Sometimes future possibilities are more important than present remuneration.
On one hand it is smart of the company in question to take advantage of this. On the other hand they will never be able to hold on to quality employees so it will bite them in the ass that way.

If the second point is true, it's not smart. It's just cheap and shortsighted.
