Tax dedukshion.

Postby Coligny » Thu Nov 21, 2013 3:44 pm

Is it possible for donations to NGO in foreign countries that are tax deductible in said country to be claimed as deductible for Japanese tax declaration ?

(Ex: http://www.nowzad.com/)

That would be an excellent tax optimisation plan if such a system existed, and an excellent incentive to become a philanthropist - I'd be sure to donate a large portion of my income to e.g. the Bahamas Fund For Distressed Octopi, c/o Suite 14322 Yan Pa House, Nassau, The Bahamas.

Well I'm not a tax expert or anything of that ilk, but after sprinkling some tealeaves over my Occam's Razor I find it unlikely that any country's tax authorities would willingly accept another country's charitable deductibles, no matter how noble the cause. The administrative effort to police it would be insane.

They managed to harmonize most automotive specs, features and safety requirement under UN regulations. So compared to that, providing defacto tax exempt status between countries of the WTO looks like a milk run...

Someone should hold a seance and suggest to the spirit world that if the dead one is so sure of his position that he raises questions about the answers he receives here, then perhaps he should sign up on a forum of international tax accountants and ask his question, or even give it a go with a modest donation this year and if it is not questioned make a bigger donation in following years. I am frankly surprised that the dead pay income tax anyway, so for all I know this is a hypothetical question.

Of course, there may have been a member here who had the definitive answer to this question, but since the dead has a history of burning bridges with them, they choose not to bother to reply. Karma's a bitch, baby.

Want to donate to "The Temple of Lemur?"

Seriously though, are temple donations tax deductible?

yes... but it has to be some type of "official" temple or organization you donate to.

http://law.e-gov.go.jp/htmldata/S40/S40 ... 0000000000

I helped some one file US and JP taxes after they donated around USD120K to Fuckedshima and Hurricane Katrina victims.

That and Google Japan donates a minimum USD100K to any natural disaster globally and writes that off.

Wuz just asking because I (well me julie, but without knowing) already give to nowzad and others. But last week me July asked me with a worried face if I knew tax deductible charities. i tried to suggest "The church of Saint Mercedes Benz of the Poors" who gives you a really nice german car as a proof of donation of a minimum of around 5 miliun yens. But I think she saw the trap...
Her request makes me think she managed to blow the wrong ceiling income wise... Which is unfortunately not reflected in our living condishiunz or lifestyle... Hell, they even closed our regular Bikkury Donkey because of norovirus outbreak... Adding that littul third world shithole touch to the city... Where will I hold my next birthday party now ?

OK, at first I thought I would see about getting myself recognised as a charitable institution and encourage you all to donate, but now I see that it is much easier and more convincing to have myself declared a natural disaster. I await my USD100K.

I asked my tax peeps here, and they kinda laughed, so my take on it is it's not practical.
