Joe Yamanaka Dead at 64

Akira "Joe" Yamanaka, singer with the Flower Travellin' Band, has died of lung cancer at the age 64. Yamanaka had powerful, versatile rock voice and even sang with the Wailers following Bob Marley's death. The Flower Travellin' Band built up something of a cult status overseas which allowed them to reform in 2007. They were touring when Yamanaka was diagnosed with cancer last year.

Likewise RIP. Joe used to be seen knocking back a cold one or two at "Kiki's Pub" when Eddie the owner was still alive. He appeared in a couple of Blues events that Eddie promoted. Good Guy and a bit too young to move on.....
