Amuro chan adds Engrish to TLC

Postby matsuki » Mon Jun 24, 2013 12:16 pm

Instead of keeping Left Eye, who died in 2002, T-Boz and Chili replaced her voice with Namie Amuro, a Japanese pop star.
What was intended to be a celebration in honour of TLC's 20th anniversary has instead upset extended family members.
Opening up to TMZ, Lisa's sister Reigndrop Lopes said: 'I did not know about it until a fan posted it online.'

I think this is an exceptional effort by someone who gave us such great tunes as Body Feels Exit (my favorite while taking a dump), Sweet 19 Bruise and Can You Cerebrate

I liked it (not that it matters any: I know fuck about music other than being aware that most people think my taste is awful)

What I didn't like is that this song has been around for 20 years. Where did my fucken life go?

I thought 20 years sounded a little off so I googled it and Waterfalls was released in '95. Maybe it was recorded 2 years earlier.

Somehow I don't think this well make it (or was intended for) western markets...Amuro's Engrish pronunciation ruins it for me an undoubtedly for most native English speakers, it will be even worse. Ninki in America....20 fucking years ago!!!

Besides...left eye was the only good looking one!

Of course not.
It would take courage for a Japanese artist to try and succeed in the West (U.S.)...Pink Lady in the 1970s with their disastrous foray onto the airwaves that I'm sure must have helped create the term "idiot box;" Seiko Matsuda, who is rumored to still have one of the New Kids on the Block dangling onto her; Puffy, who were briefly darlings of what became the weaboo, and the bird whose name I forget, but she had a mustache and grew up in New York, which she promptly proved with deep and meaningful lyrics like "I'm Easy, I'm Breezy, I am Japanesey."

Any other success in a Western market has probably been an accident....

Which all crack me up because the only way I see them (or any eastern artists for that matter) making it in the west is if they give up on (poorly) imitating western artists and do their own thing... (or play backup haha)

...and most of you probably have never heard of Takako Minekawa but her voice is probably permanently burned into your brain saying "Pray Stayshon"

That'd be Utada Hikaru, or Hikaru Utada, depending on whether you're in a right-spin or left-spin hemisphere.
