Mold Season

God I hate the rainy season! It whas been the death of more watch bands, shoes and bags than I care to remember. After yesterday's rain my bag has taken on the pleasant odor of a hockey rink locker. This is actually a fairly good bag so it isn't something I want to toss out.

Has anyone got any decent suggestions on how to get rid of the mold?

tell me about it - we have been battling mould for a few weeks now. We have bought the local supermarket out of closet camels but we are out to buy a dehumidifyer this weekend.

Also, most airconditioners have a dry setting.

Problem is that this is occuring on the inside of my business bag so the a dehumidifier won't cut it. If it were just in the house I wouldn't hesitate to use a chloride cleaner like this stuff:


but I am frighten to think of what it might do to leather.

What's it made of, leather? Try sticking it in a freezer to kill and dry out the mold (although I don't know if the musty smell might transfer to frozen foods). Then you could use Saddle Soap to clean it up a bit.

I use white vinegar for various surfaces, including leather, but I also spotted this:

Leather goods. Make a diluted alcohol solution by mixing one cup of denatured alcohol with 1 cup of water. Using a cloth dampened with this solution, wipe mildew off leather. Dry in a current of air. If mildew remains, clean with thick suds of mild soap, saddle soap, or a soap containing a fungicide or germicide. Wipe the suds off with a damp cloth and dry in an airy place. Polish leather with a good wax dressing . . . more

EMERGING biotech company Biosignal has won the support of a Japanese group, which will invest in the company and help accelerate commercialisation...Biosignal has developed an anti-bacterial product that is likely to be used initially on contact lenses but which has many other potential uses, chief executive Michael Oredsson said. The product was developed from a molecule called a furanone, which was found in a seaweed on the east coast. Researchers noticed that bacteria never colonised the seaweed.
