NHK feature on kindergarten teacher Miklos Fejer, a volunteer fireman with the Mimata Town Fire Department in Miyazaki Prefecture. According to his blog, there was a small domestic dispute when his wife told him she didn't want to appear on TV.

Cute story & blog. Thanks Mulboyne-san.

Glad to see some good propaganda about gaikokujin for a change.

And some wise words on the blog about the key to a happy marriage!

Personally, I am all in favor of volunteerism. I think that it is the key to being part of the community. However, one should pick and choose the type of voluntary activities one takes part in. In general, I wouldn't ever take part in community activities that are likely to result in death or injury, such as fighting mikoshis or fighting fires.
