Hello all, John Dillinger here also formerly known as Densuke Mifune, Pencilslave, and originally Kaibutsu when I first stumbled on the forums as an anime addled Japan pop culture fan. Now that's out of the way...

While I don't know if it's allowable to post about an american film here, since this is a giant monster movie, I'm hoping it is.

Without giving anything away....HOLY SHIT! Honest to God, this is the first Kaiju flick since Gojira that actually was scary. No disrespect to grand daddy zilla but just like the first film, it's deadly serious.

Any of you gaijin in the states seen it and what'd you think?

Hey welcome back Kaibutsu!

Being a Kaiju flick fan too, I thought I would hate Cloverfield like Hollywood Crapzilla.

But I sort of liked the flick too, despite all the hand-held camera work and the whimpy characters who whined more than bag-full of Boeing 777s.

I saw it today at Roppongi Hills. I liked it but make sure you bring your barf bag because all that shakey hand-held camera work made me feel queasy. My girl actually had to leave the theatre to vomit. She came back in but couldn't take it, left again, and waited for me in the lobby while I watched the rest. No joke. When we left she pointed out that there are signs warning people about it. Some other people left early for the same reason.
