[floatr]Image[/floatr]Telegraph: Japanese display team dog savaged pet spaniel, court told
A dog that was part of a canine display team bolted into the audience and viciously attacked a spaniel while also injuring its owner, a court heard. The Akita - a large Japanese breed - leapt off a platform and ran into the crowd rather than down a tunnel as soon as its lead was removed. The dog, called Diego, clamped its jaws around the head of a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. The attack left two puncture marks in the spaniel's head and the dog's owner was also bitten on the hand as she tried to prise Diego's jaws off her pet...Diego is described on the Solent Display Dog Team's website as "very gentle" and "good at obedience"...more...

Not at all. They left two impressions behind! Both were in the other pooch's head!

An Akita should NEVER be off the leash outside its own home/yard.

This is coming from a lover of the breed.

What about a Tosa-ken? About 5 times as big and with a temper/familial obedience close to a pitbull/rottweiler, never ever let these loose around unfamiliar dogs/people...

No. It's not that big. Maybe comparing a Japanese Akita to an American bred Tosa sure, but if it's an Americanized Akita compared to a Tosa, then they are a lot closer in size. My Akita was 130lbs. Tosas CAN get up to 200lbs, but that is rare.

130LB Akita? Dayum, thats huge. I always had an image of those small little Akitas in my mind as the normal size for the breed. We used to have a couple of Bouviers and they went straight to police dog school after we got them. The male grew to about 80kg and the female not far behind at ~65kg. People were scared if them all the time since they looked like bears, but if not for the training, everytime we left them alone (for instance if we popped into a store to shop), kids would be pulling their ears and lifting the forehead hair trying to find their eyes...good temperment though, except if you ever tried to break into our house at night, then all bets are off.
