This might be just the connexion you're looking for...

They toured worldwide and released live albums made at venues from Leicester to Tokyo. Despite the frequent line-up changes, The Three Degrees were lauded for their tight harmony singing as well as their versatility, recording numbers in French, Spanish and even Japanese.

I am sure she had Japanese food and watched anime at least once in her life. Who knows?

The three Degress were (still are) more popular in Japan than anywhere else (including the USA)

One of the very, very few acts to have a hit singing in Japanese 'Nigai Namida'

Pink Lady (a kinda of popular duo in Japan - grin) were setup to directlly copy the Three Degrees including many of Fayette's quirky hand movements. Pink Lady were first called 'Two Hot'

Their Soul Train theme was the biggest 'thing' in Disco alley Shinjuku back when.

Their 'Live in Tokyo' Album was used by Toyota in several ads.

..and I have a thing for girl groups from the 60s and 70s. <grin> (dirty old man - was a three degrees hit too)

Very related.

The Three Degrees were huge in Japan and one of the first popular foreign bands to try singing in Japanese.
