i really like the programs where the game show hosts go out and cause trouble/help people. also, anything Takeshi Kitano hosted is great too.

I know of Japanese video shops in LA and the Bay Area that rent all the current shows taped off TV, plus the legit movie videos. They usually have stuff a week or two after the broadcast. It's probably a grey market business to say the least.

There is a video store in the kinokunia building in Japantown, San Francisco. They have these video's and rent them for a dollare a piece. Unfortunately I'm still languishing around the JLPT 3 level so I cant read kanji well enough to give you a description of titles.... the katakana on the back gives some clue but it is just "komede" "baraite" "durama" etc etc

beat takeshi sucks. you should watch the london boots guys, they are hilarious. they do shows like the stinger where guys ask them to send out a `stinger` to try and pick up their girlfriends and bring them back to his house where the hosts and the bf are waiting to catch her. they used to do another one where guys would ask them to find out if their gf was cheating. they would bust into her apartment with cameras to go through her stuff and try to trick her into confessing.
