Graduate Student ISO Work

Postby bealuct » Thu Nov 03, 2011 6:21 am

Just looking for a general idea here... as far as I know I think that student visas would let me work in Tokyo.

Here is my resume...

Bachelor's in English Literature :(
1 Year as an assistant to the branch manager of a (construction) ceramics trading company in Korea...
2 Years server for Taiwanese-owned sushi restaurant in the US :D
Fluency... Mandarin, Korean, and English
Very good at wasting time...
Veteran lotto player (5+ years experience)
Popular with married obasan (35+ years of age)....

I know my prospects don't look to good... but I must eat, and use the internet.

edit: Oh!! And I refuse to teach the ENGRISH!

Well, I don't think teaching "the MATHS" is going to be in your future either. :p

There may be some restaurants or bars that would hire you even with minimal Japanese-ability. Take a look at the listings on CL.

Or, you might want to get a portfolio of professional photos together and canvass the various talent agencies in town that hire foreigners for modeling and extra gigs. The posts on this siteprovide some good basic information and advice including which agencies (especially the ones to avoid such as the infamous Inagawa Motoko)

I am sorry to say this but... while I am not unlike you in that I am gaijin and love ze dollar/six McChicken Sandwhiches, and McDonald's Monopoly... I do not have the advantages (disadvantages, take your pick) of looking different from ze Japonis...:(

I am Korean.... Maybe I can sell vegetables somewhere on the streets...

EDIT: I will look over those links. Help appreciated----

I put probability and statistic closer to alchemy and other snake oils rather than math or other modern science... happenstance should prevail upon the cult of numbers...

Shows that you do not know anything about probability theory and statistics.

Odds aren't too bad actually, my highest win was about 750$ for something called the multi match, was pretty damn close to winning the jackpot.

I consider my lotto plays a significant source of secondary income ^^!
