One word: "money."
Other than that, not much, I'd venture to guess.

Mind you I am getting so sick of seeing anything related to AKB48 and clones I am beginning think I'd prefer it if they were replaced by vomiting cats.

Sorry to be a downer.

A commercial showing members of wildly popular all-girl band AKB48 passing bite-sized candies seductively from mouth-to-mouth is under fire in Japan for encouraging homosexuality.
The advertisement, which aired in March, shows the school uniform-clad young women - all in their late teens or early 20s - intimately exchanging the sweet, with the close-up footage slowing as their lips near.
A broadcasting standards watchdog said on Thursday the majority of the 116 complaints it had received in March about commercials concerning young people related to this advert.
"The commercial may encourage homosexuality," one of the complaints said, adding "oral flora" was also a concern, according to the Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organisation.

I am talking about the fact that the Producer of AKB48 is perfectly happy to objectify and commoditise the daughters of others, and I was speculating on whether he would be happy for his own daughter to receive the same treatment. And yes, I am fully aware that his wife is a former idol, but I also know that the word 'former' is italicised and underlined twice in her case.
I really don't know whether I should say this, because the daughter in this case did not choose to be born into showbiz royalty and I strongly believe that she should be given the best chance to grow up as normally as possible, however futile the attempt, but ... I have personal knowledge of the parties involved here. My comment that "I am sure she is growing up in a very supportive and loving environment" is not sarcasm, I know it to be true. Which makes it all the harder to work out just what the Producer thinks of it all. I suppose the comments here are correct: no more than the optimal exploitation of the resources provided to him.
I had an inkling that I was going to regret bringing the Producer's daughter into all this, and for her sake I make it clear here that I will NOT be drawn on any more information about her. It is hard enough for her to have a childhood already.
