On a short stay visa you need to keep your passport on your person at all times.

On a previous blog post it was said that they interviewed the fiance for 3 hours about their co-habitation and marriage plans.

It is all so murky they are keeping him in detention until they can build a better case against him.

Now if only he could get somebody to hire him and sponsor his visa then he would be sorted. Relying on spouse visas is not a good idea if you are a serial divorcee.. (was that mean spirited? My internet judgement is so addled lately that I don't know anymore.)

"A group of Chinese criminals got deported yesterday. One had served 8 years of a 12 year sentence for import and distribution of machine guns in Japan...a no gun country!

Michael was told by his 6th case officer that he will be in the gulag for another 30 days. No reason. No appeal.

The guy from the Congo had an 8 hour hearing yesterday. No decision made.

Nobody knows. Yet hope in this opportunity remains.

I'll see Michael again tomorrow. Wednesday in Japan. The news is that Michael's BIG hearing will be on Thursday at 1:00. This is when the Gulag Guys can set him free or not.

If not, this will probably become more of an official legal challenge instead of the procedural process Michael has been going through since he was arrested on September 16th.

There are also some videos up on Facebook where he basically says that he was trying to be the bridge of understanding between the protestors and the locals to try to heal. He also said that as he was just on a short stay visa he really painted a target on his back and he learned his lesson that if he was going to put himself into controversy that he would make sure he had a better standing in the eyes of Japanese immigration.

Nobody can answer my question about why he had an ARC on a short stay visa.

I have just been bailed after 53 days and am now back in my home in Tokyo.

Have just logged in here and to Twitter and am overwhelmed by the messages of support and things people have been doing for me during my time away from you all.

I have counted over 1000 kind messages already and received many books, letters, magazines and newspapers over the past 2 months. What amazing people you all are.

I was arrested by the Japanese police on 16 September in the infamous "Cove" town of Taiji and held (without any charge) by them for 11 days due to misleading information supplied to them by the Immigration service. After being cleared of any wrong doing the last 42 days have involved an investigation by Immigration and as far as I can see the Osaka Detention Center where I have been held has yet to communicate with the Tokyo office which was where I was granted an extension on my visa (or at least I thought I was). They are in 2 words a xenophobic nightmare.

Things reached a total nadir last Thursday during my "admistrative hearing" where the Tokyo case officer failed to appear as a witness due to not being notified by Osaka. Keystone cops stuff but I did learn of the possibility of bail which I was promptly granted.

I harbour no harsh feelings towards japan merely warn people not to expect any form of reasonable treatment from their Police force nor Immigration Service. Their mindset and systems are firmly stuck in the dark ages unfortunately.

I will go into details later but will just say that....

1. It has been an awesome learning experience about gratitude, Japan, what is real and what matters.

2. I did not overstay nor commit any breach of any law of Japan.I could perhaps have asked one or two better questions and been less trusting but basically I have been caught in a trap of suspiscion of foreigners and incompetence of bewildering proportions.

3. I am healthy and well both physically and mentally. My Japanese both spoken and written is at a whole new level.

4. I miseed you all like crazy!

5. I owe several of you a huge amount of thanks and will will now begin work on paying you back.

6. 4 more years!

7. I am fired up and ready to tweet and post and share.

Yikes. He got both "bail" and a special "4 year" visa!
And, here I thought longer-term visas only come in 3 or 5 year increments.

I don't want to seem like a hater and to be picking holes in his story, I really just want to find out what really happened to make sure that it is not something that could happen to me or anybody I know. I hope he is going to do a tell all blog post at some point and be open to questions.

At least he is not grandstanding like Stupid Head aka C.J. so we might actually get some straight answers and not self-important grandeurous delusional speak of gulags and threats of blackmail or jounalistic persecutions
