Cesium levels in water, plankton baffle scientists
The Japan Times | 2013/05/22
...
"Plankton are thought to play a key role in the dispersion of the cesium because they are eaten by bigger fish. We want to study further what is influencing the accumulation of radioactive cesium," said Minoru Kitamura, a marine ecologist and senior researcher at the Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology...
...
Kitamura said they haven’t figured out why the concentrations of contamination differed in plankton and seawater.
"Our concern is the high level of (radioactive cesium found in plankton) taken from waters around latitude 25 degrees north, and we don’t know why the level got high around that area," Kitamura said. "We need to study whether the concentration will decline, or stay the same."
The finding was released at the Japan Geoscience Union at the Makuhari Messe international convention center in Chiba Prefecture on Tuesday.

Relax dood, now the epa has joined the japs in the game of "if you can't do it properly, lower the bar and call it another name"

How can I miss :

significantly relax radiation hazard standards in the case of a radiological event

Which is basically what the Japanese are doing for the last 2 years...

It's like having 2 sets of fire and safety code... 1 for when the building is not on fire... and one for when the building is on fire...

They are doing this on the assumption that radiological event will be short lived and therefore bigger dose can be allowed. Looking back at Fukushima... in these uncontrolled environment, you can't know the duration of the event... rendering any set of rule based on expected short time of happenstance m00t. And even the science behind (threshold level of exposure) vary in acceptance between scientists...

What can be translated in this decision is... if you live near a Nukaplant, if it blows... sux to be you...

From the EPA... who want to send hazmat teams in houses if you break a CFL lightbulb...
Freedom is like farts... You enjoy yours but usually can't stand other's...

Cesium Plankton - Eaten by nearly everything in the ocean at some point....Japanese seafood is getting more appetizing each year.

Has anyone actually tested/posted radiation in the seafood here since 3/11?
