see funny thing is, the US has traditionally been the great sanitizer when it comes to games... any whiff of sex or transgender and it was all nope, nope, nope! Psuedo-nazi symbolism and it's all "aw dangnit, garsh, we can't have that!" etc, ad nauseum

Just until Grand Theft Auto came out...
They originally wanted to change Chun-Li in Street Fighter 2 cause it would be men hitting her...
In Mario Cart 64, Bowser would chug champagne if he won in the Japanese version... but nope ... not in the NA release.
