I'm not sure which sounds more disgusting: fried butter, fried Oreos, or fried Mars bars (a Scottish/British specialty ... substitute your favorite chocolate bar). I have not had the opportunity to sample any of the above, but what kind of scares me is that they just might be delicious. Which is more reason to avoid getting that first taste.

I have had a fried Mars bar. Thankfully the fish and chip shop had a vat of oil for that purpose only, rather than doing it in the same oil as the fish. Be careful who you invite along to sample one: if they decide half way through that it is not for them, then you are obliged to finish it for them, and I can tell you that one fried Mars bar at a sitting is quite enough, one and a half is a step way too far. That said, a fun novelty occasionally.

Deep fried dill pickles in Alabama was a nice surprise. Don't think I've seen it anywhere else.

Lard or oil? I found the Snickers to be superior to the Mars, but the pizza to be the best of all, but anything I had south of The Wall was done English style in lard and that was as foul as the fish and chips were. And YokoH nailed the real danger: if you like it, they're Magnificent. The pizza is to die for............innuendo intended.

BTW, apparently there are now niche chippies in Edinburgh that serve "proper English" lard fried fare. Aaaah, de-evolution........whoda thunked it?

I did deepfried tomato cheeze bacon balls with hardboiled quail egg in the middle few times

I have absolutely no memory whatsoever of the engineering of the layers.
In all logic that should be wrap quail egg in slice of cheeze, stuff inside a tomato emptied from its core, wrap in bacon, batter, deep fry.

The diet alternative waz cut a tomato in 6 crescents, wrap cheeze, wrap bacon, batter, deep fry.
I wish i'd still have a workable kitchen...
