Japan has withheld its annual UNESCO dues, saying it wants to make sure the U.N. body properly functions to foster trust among member nations.
Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, asked by a reporter, confirmed that Japan withheld dues of 4 billion yen ($40 million) for this year. He refused to say if that was to protest UNESCO's listing last year of Chinese Rape of Nanking documents as a memory of the world.

I love this newer Jpn diplomatic phrasing. Very early Showa nostalgic in tenor I wonder if UNESCO will register the League of Nations Pillow Fight as an Intangible World Cultural Heritage anytime soon?
Also, to be fair to Japan, UNESCO has really taken a Pally Hugging Wet Diaper turn in the past few years in terms of their indulgence of Pissy Brown issues. Given Japan's solid, silent support for Israel and possible US surrogate role this may also be related to UNESCO's recent bout of Jew Hate, which would make it a nice, principled stand against the rising bilge of terrorist scum and the kneejerk sympathy of the sad white left. Having said all that, and quite sincerely, this tendency to go with the Cheney Lite response when dissatisifed strikes me as a touch too American/Red Chinese for a proper democracy.
Sadly, this is likely to mean that the disused amusement park down the road from Russell and Wagyl will not have it's World Heritage Site application approved in time for the all important leaf viewing season.
