South China Morning Post wrote:Some public toilets in Beijing are using facial recognition technology to stop toilet paper theft, the Legal Evening News reports.
At the Temple of Heaven, one of the capital’s busiest tourist sites and a former hotbed of toilet paper kleptomania, a user in need of tissue paper must stand in front of a wall-mounted machine with a high definition camera.
The device’s software remembers recent faces, and if the same a person reappears within a certain period, it refuses to activate the automatic roller.
The current setting per person is 60cm of paper within nine minutes.

Reminds me of what they did in our street last week. We had a simple concrete gomi pit, where we would put all the recyclables etc and just throw a crow net over the bags. Now they have installed huge ugly eyesores of cages, which look more like lion cages or gorilla kennels. And of course, they are locked on the non-gomi days by the gomi-powers that be. I have no idea, who they expect to be wanting to steal their valuable gomi to waste so much money to protect it as if it were Fort Knox. Godzilla maybe?
Total overkill.

Composting gomi? I'd be all for it. With all the weird categories they have, this would be a worthwhile one imo. But probably hard to train the millenial city slickers, what goes in there and what goes not.

Yes, I do. But I am always tempted to take things out of those...

Landlord?
We do this regularly, when gomi is put in front of our house on the wrong day. We just take it into the water pump room and then hopefully not forget to put it back out on Gomi Eve. Easier than deal with the mess that the crows and other critters make, if gomi is let there to rot.
