Hm, I hadn't thought about how guys from different cultures compare to each other in their ability to get into girls' pants. I suppose Americans would rate pretty high, but what about Japanese? Is there any objective measurement that could apply here?
No wonder Nigel was a dud........He took her to a movie about the Inuit and then he used the old "come up to my place to see my MAP collection" (Don't get me wrong, I find maps fascinating, but map viewing is not everybody's cup of tea especially on a freakin' first date ---same can be said about films about the Inuit, a fine people no doubt but not a date flick) What I want to know is this: who was Nigel's mentor? Some Japanese otaku ?
After giving this a bit more thought (not much, though) we should consider the following: the woman who wrote this does work for the Toronto Globe And Mail as its art critic (if I remember correctly) so she could be a bit of a snob----but she IS a Canadian and WE aren't a snobby people, are we?
I just finished reading that third link posted...SHE INSULTED CANADIAN BEER in her rant about poor people. Oh my GAWD she's Canadian & she made derogatory remarks about Canadian beer Someone take away her Canadian citizenship immediately...this is akin to treason. I blame the Tories of the province of Ontario for this! don't get me wrong I enjoy foreign beers as much as the next person, but Canadian beer is sacred to us Canadians (along with hockey and back bacon). send that young woman off to fight forest fires
I read the whole looooong article and have come to this conclusion. Leah McLaren is a conniving, high-maintenance snob. First of all, she somehow can't accept the fact that she lives in a different country and, hence, must get used to a different social code. (She can't just expect them to change their ways just to make sure that she's comfortable.) The whole article is "North America this" and "North America that." Shut up already and learn to adjust. Secondly, any woman who touts the dependability of "The Rules" just needs to get a grip on reality.

She just ripped this off... I remember when I was on the high school debate team... we had to give short topic speeches as practice... my best friend was English, so I scoured the library for any book that would dish out dirt on the Brits for my speech "About our friends across the Pond"... found a book by an Irish guy who had been booted out of England that laid it all out about the sex. The gist was that Brits didn't know how to treat women right (they didn't beat them... they just didn't know how to pick up signals, etc...).
What a toss. Not only is she up herself but f*ck me, map collection? I'm sure the average pom would have given her a right royal bonking.
