Why would the artist be grateful to the songwriter, that's ass backwards. Songwriters are a dime a dozen and no one has a dime. Another artist might have cut the same song and see it flop. Getting a hit is all luck.

When an artist cuts your song you'll fall all over yourself in gratitude.

well, that's the case with most (major) labels anyway. but it is nice that they don't have a clause that says "everything you send are belong to us" anyway i guess... plus, most small pop bands that are unsigned are begging for copyright issues, as long as they can "make it" in show biz, right?
