Kuna: Japan to conclude 'Working Holiday' treaty with Denmark
Japan has decided to include Denmark on the list of countries with which it has a "working holiday" treaty, media reported Saturday, citing government sources. A "working holiday" agreement allows young people from signatory countries to stay and work for a certain period of time in each other's countries when they travel in them. Japan currently has such a treaty with seven countries -- Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, France, Germany, Canada and the UK... The step is partly in response to growing calls from young Japanese people seeking to spend sufficient time investigating the situation in northern European countries, which have very advanced welfare systems, at a time when Japan's population is aging. The step is also aimed at more actively luring foreign youth to Japan to make them more knowledgeable about and fond of the country. Japan plans to conclude a similar treaty with more foreign countries, mainly those with a similar degree of economic development, such as Italy, the daily added.
