Cold here in Niigata

Postby 503 » Tue Dec 27, 2005 11:56 pm

I am freezing my ass off here in Niigata. I am no newbie to cold either, I grew up in NY, NY where it gets colder than this, but this is a different kind of cold. Don't know how to explain it. Maybe its the fact that if I turn the heat up I will end up in the poorhouse.
Whatever the cause, anyone got any advice on how to keep warm. Besides the predictable together with a lady on a cold night stories. Right now that ladies hands are too damn cold to go anywhere on me!
Seriously, I posted this in the "Gaijin Ghetto" forum because where else should this question be posted? I am poor right now and I need heat. I bought a warming pad for my dog because she is frickin cold too, but "sorry Chong Chong I need the heat pad".

remember to put blankets beneath you as well as on top

I always put an electric blanket beneath me.

I got pleasantly used to heat rising into my bones in Korea...

Hot Water Bottle is my saviour, that and a damn good futon.
Hot Water bottles are cheap to buy and even cheaper to use to keep warm.

Would love and electric blanket but cant really afford one, also id rather waste my power on a long, long, hot shower insted - or a nice hot bath with some sented powders. mmmm bath.............

Local onsens are usually a cheap good way to keep really warm for a few hours if u can stand it

Maybe not possible if you live in an apartment but These stoves are pretty cheap.
We live in the country up in the mountains so plenty of things to burn. When I lived in Sapporo I had one like it and used to go around to building sites and collect the burnable stuff from them to burn in it. Old newspapers, rolled up, grass, anything burnable is ok.

not only stinky, dirty, and potentially a huge fire hazard, the amount of time you spend looking for fuel could be better spent eating beans and farting under a blanket. :D

Just run some stovepipe out a window, takes 5 whole minutes.

I can tell you be one o'dem city boys

a lot less stinky, dirty, and potentially a health/fire hazard than eating beans and farting under a blanket.

Unless you light your farts, :flame: is that what you do BB?

Have you ever farted under a blanket? Then as long as you don't let it escape, the smell is filtered slowly through the blanket, and the warmth is generally around nominal body temperature. If you can produce 2 or 3 gas movements in a 10 minute period, you will stay quite toasty.

I am a country boy, who has fell in love with the city slicker ways. 100% electrical heat for me thanks. :D I just wished I had a diesel generator in case the power were to fail.

Yes I can see how that might work, but when static electricity causes your gas ball to ignite, doesn't it get a little too warm? Anyway I can see how that might be a real turn-on for Mrs. Booger. Makin' love by the swamp gas light. I think Meatloaf had a song something like that.

Speaking about which, I just noticed this story in the news today

Kyodo via Crisscross

[quote] die, 1 seriously ill, probably due to hydrogen sulfide gas at hot spring

Hydrogen sulfide gas rises from a hot spring in Yuzawa, Akita Pre

AKITA —]

So farting in bed may be a considerable health risk. :D

The Surgeon General has just issued a report that Big Booger's futon may be an environmental hazzard!

Yes not only does the Surgeon General recommend against the practice, I did some checking and found out:

Image
Not only is it UNHEALTHY
Image
It's DANGEROUS
Image
And HAZARDOUS
Image

Even the JAAA has issued a warning for low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the Booger residence.

"Dutch oven"? Better than a Dutch blindfold (if you're a hetero male gaijin, that is).
